Downed trees and broken limbs removed from roofs, garages, vehicles and driveways around Billings
📞 Call (406) 384-5343 NowBillings trees tend to fail in a few predictable ways. A heavy fall snow loads a leafed-out canopy until a limb tears loose. A summer thunderstorm comes off the Rims with a downburst strong enough to snap an old cottonwood. Or a Siberian elm that has been rotting from the inside for years finally drops a leader onto the garage on a calm day. When that happens, you need the weight off the structure quickly and without making the damage worse.
Before any saw starts, we look for wires, figure out where the load is resting and which pieces are under tension, and identify anything still hanging overhead. Limbs on a roof are cut and lowered piece by piece with ropes so nothing rolls or drops through the roof deck. With the house free of weight, the trunk and remaining wood are sectioned at ground level.
Cold weather adds its own problems. Frozen wood is brittle and can break unpredictably, snow hides debris on the ground, and short days leave less light to work in. We plan the work around those conditions rather than rushing it, because a tree removed carelessly in January can do as much damage as the storm that knocked it down.
Spring brings a different set of emergencies. Snowmelt and spring rain soften the ground around shallow-rooted spruce and older cottonwoods, and a gusty afternoon can push a whole tree over, roots and all. Those uprooted trees often lie at odd angles with the root plate under tension, which makes cutting them apart a job that needs a plan rather than a chainsaw and a guess.
Once the immediate danger is gone, we can grind what is left with our stump grinding service and look at the rest of the yard through a hazard tree assessment, so the next tree to fail is found before it falls.

Yes. Many of our emergency calls come during fall and spring snowstorms, and we adjust the work for frozen wood and slick conditions.
That is the goal of rigging. Lowering the tree in sections keeps it from rolling or dropping through the roof as it is removed.
The utility must make the lines safe first. Call NorthWestern Energy, then call us to deal with the tree.
